Apple is facing a lawsuit for slowing down iPhone 6, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone X and their various variants. It may well have to pay money to many customers

Apple is in trouble again. The company faces a massive £768 million lawsuit in the UK due to certain iPhone models slowing down after an update was rolled out. Importantly, Apple could be forced to pay hefty compensation to consumers. So, if you had any of these iPhone models, you may well be eligible for compensation from Apple. The lawsuit has been filed by Justin Gutmann, a consumer champion in the UK on behalf of almost 25 million iPhone users. The lawsuit claims that Apple “throttled” these iPhones which impacted performance in a bid to conserve battery. It may have well forced people to purchase new devices. The iPhones in the lawsuit include iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X.

The iPhone throttling occurred due to a new Power Management Feature which arrived in iPhones via iOS update, back in 2017. Instead of increasing the performance, the update slowed down the iPhones to an extent that users of the older models were unable to use their devices.

Apple CEO Tim Cook later apologized for the same after a public outrage. The company was later forced to pay compensation to the affected users. It now seems that Apple is in trouble again. Users of iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus and the iPhone X will be eligible for compensation if the lawsuit is successful.

Gutmann said, “I’m launching this case so that millions of iPhone users across the UK will receive redress for the harm suffered by Apple’s actions. If this case is successful, I hope dominant companies will re-evaluate their business models and refrain from this kind of conduct.”

Apple’s Response

Apple has given a statement to the UK Sun in which it said, “We have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades,”

“Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that,” the company added further.
