Photoshop can be expensive for some people. It can also be a bit complicated for some people to use. However, there are plenty of design software programmes and web-based apps that could be more suitable for you.

Here are five that could be more suitable for you and your business. Some are cheaper, some are easier and some are completely free. This article will discuss the pros and cons of these applications and hopefully, help you use something else other than photoshop.

Pixlr

This is one you have probably already heard of. Pixlr is a web-based application and is often compared to PhotoShop. However, it is far simpler and easier to use compared to Adobe’s editing software for images.

Pixlr is great for multiple reasons. Not just the fact that it is cheaper per month compared to PhotoShop. If you want to have a trial with the application first then you can. However, Pixlr limits the features that you can use. Once your trial has expired, you can start paying for the annual deal that they currently have on offer which is $38. This equates to $3.16 per month which is far cheaper compared to PhotoShop.

It is quick and easy to edit graphics as well as being available on all devices due to it being a web app. This is arguably one of the best applications to use if you are a beginner in photo editing.

One thing that Pixlr is missing is a photo extension converter tool. Another thing is that they do not have an online cloud to save your projects which, is something that needs to be added. Overall, Pixlr is one of the best applications out there. So, this is definitely something that you should consider for your design agency in Manchester

Pixelied

Pixelied is another great web-based app that is great for editing but a bit pricier than Pixlr. Not to mention the thousands of templates that you can use. Again, Pixelied also has a trial version just like Pixlr, with limited features.

The price plan for Pixelied is at the cost of $9.95 per month. It’s simple to resize graphics as well on both the free and paid version. Pixlr offers a lot more than Pixellied but it is still considered a strong competitor to the other software/web applications for editing.

Photopea

Time to talk about the free alternatives. Not everybody can afford monthly subscriptions for editing software. Especially when they have to pay for other expenses as well. Photopea is one of those free software that is also available on the web.

It is known as the free alternative to Photoshop. As soon as you open up their website, it allows users to start creating their own project. Photopea has a wide variety of features that can help you with editing graphics/ pictures.

Another great thing is that you can export it into the formats that you will need. PNG, JPEG, SVG and others are available for exporting. People will use free tools just because they are not over complicated and quite easy to use. However, this is very different with Photopea as it can be difficult to use for certain things.

There are many other free Photoshop alternatives out there other than Photopea. It is all about exploring the different ones out there to find what is best for your needs.

Pixelmator Pro

This one is for Apple users. It is only available on iPhones, iPads and iMac/ Macs. This can be available at a one-off price of $39.99. Which is different to the first two that were mentioned before. Many people prefer paying a one-off price instead of a monthly subscription. If you are one of those people who has an apple product as well then this is definitely for you.

If you wish to try it out before purchasing then that also gives you the information. There are plenty of amazing features to use on Pixelmator as well. These are; Layer Management, non-destructive resizing, layouts, retouching, selections, painting, and image repair.

If you are a semi-experienced photo/graphic editor then you should have no issues with Pixelmator pro. There are a few things that are missing from Pixelmator Pro such as tone mapping and target layer ranges.

Affinity Photo

Affinity Photo is software that promises not to crash as much as its competitors and has real-time rendering for your edits. Affinity Photo is made by Serif and certainly gives Adobe a run for their money in terms of price.

This is another one-time purchase whilst being available on Macs, Windows and iPads. The application on the iPads is a total of $19.99. Serif always likes to keep their software updated regularly to either add new features or fix bugs that might be occurring.

There are plenty of amazing features with Affinity Photo. Over 1,000,00% zoom and unlimited layers for your project is just a couple of the amazing features that Serif Affinity Photo has to offer.

There are a few negatives that people say about Affinity Photo though. It can be quite difficult to use for starters. It is not a programme that you will pick up straight away if you are a novice. Another issue with affinity photo is that it lacks tools for import and photo management. Last but not least, it does not have design templates. You are basically starting from the beginning with your project.

One of the best things about affinity photo is that it is available on multiple platforms for starters. Not to mention when you first open the programme. It takes you to a welcome panel. It offers you sample images, tutorials, and links to Twitter and Facebook content. It makes sure it gives you a proper welcome as soon as you open it.

Summary

So there you have it, five different alternative programmes to PhotoShop. A variety of single payments, monthly payments and free programmes/ web applications. Editing images can be extremely difficult. There are plenty of programmes out there that will make it a bit easier for you. It is all about experimenting with the different trial versions before making a decision on which one to buy.
