Australia’s competitiveness regulator explained on Thursday a courtroom has ordered the area unit of Samsung Electronics to fork out a penalty of AUD 14 million (approximately Rs. 76 crore) over deceptive promises about a h2o-resistance feature in some of its smartphones.
Samsung Australia admitted to misleading prospective buyers of some of its ‘Galaxy’ telephones about the h2o-resistance stage, the Australian Competitors & Purchaser Commission (ACCC) explained. The regulator to start with sued the firm in July 2019.
The regulator mentioned that concerning March 2016 and October 2018, the organization ran in-retail outlet and social media ads that claimed the phones could be made use of in pools or seawater.
The ACCC, on the other hand, been given hundreds of grievances from consumers stating the smartphones did not function effectively or even stopped doing the job completely soon after staying exposed to drinking water.
The claims “promoted an essential selling stage for these Galaxy phones. Quite a few buyers who procured a Galaxy cellular phone may perhaps have been uncovered to the deceptive ads just before they manufactured their decision to order a new phone,” reported ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb.
