WSJ hires Toonkel as deputy media editor

Jessica Toonkel

The Wall Street Journal has hired Jessica Toonkel as its deputy media editor.

She will begin Aug. 1.

Toonkel has been at The Information for the past four years as a media and telecom reporter in New York.

She formerly spent seven decades at Reuters, wherever she was the U.S. media correspondent from 2016 to 2018, breaking stories about media consolidation and about moves by Facebook and Amazon into electronic media. In advance of the media conquer, Jessica included M&A and finance.

Before Reuters, she labored for Crain Communications, Institutional Investor and American Lawyer.

Toonkel graduated from Vassar College.
